Subscriber Growth Strategy

Turn readers into trials, trials into paid members, and paid members into people who stay.

Most research businesses lose subscribers in places the analyst never sees.

Someone reads a brilliant piece of analysis, clicks through to the subscription page, and hits copy that describes features instead of outcomes. Or they start a trial, receive nothing for six days, and cancel on the seventh. Or there's one price and one tier, it's the wrong side of what they'd have paid, so they pay nothing. Or they've been a member for two years, the value is still there, and nobody has reminded them of it since the day they joined.

None of these are research problems. All of them are revenue problems. And they compound quietly. A funnel losing a slice of every cohort and a retention curve bleeding steadily never look like a crisis in any single month. Over a year they are the difference between a side income and a business.

WHAT'S INCLUDED

What's included.

Funnel optimization: a full audit of the path from first touch to paid subscriber, mapping where people arrive, where they hesitate, and where they leave. Then the fixes, in priority order, with the highest-leverage change first.

Trial-to-paid conversion: the trial window is the highest-stakes stretch of the subscriber relationship, and usually the least designed. Sequenced onboarding, value delivery timed to the decision point, and the conversion ask placed where it actually converts.

Pricing and offer structure: tier design, price points, annual versus monthly, and what belongs behind which wall. Pricing is positioning, and the number you charge tells the market what kind of analyst you are.

Brand identity and positioning: what you're known for, said in a way that distinguishes you from every other analyst covering the same tickers. This is the layer everything else sits on, and the one most often skipped.

Subscription page copy: the page where the decision actually happens, rewritten to sell the outcome rather than list the features.

Email sequences: welcome, onboarding, trial conversion, win-back, and the ongoing rhythm that keeps members engaged between publications.

Platform positioning: how you show up on Seeking Alpha, on Substack, and on your own site, and how those three reinforce each other instead of competing. Cross-promotion strategy included.

HOW IT WORKS

How the engagement runs.

Most clients start with a Brand & Funnel Review, a structured audit of the current state and a prioritized action plan you own regardless of whether we work together further. It's a low-commitment way to find out whether the problem is what you think it is. Frequently it isn't.

From there, engagements typically take one of two shapes. A defined project with a fixed scope and endpoint: positioning and brand work, a landing page and marketing copy rewrite, a full subscription and SEO overhaul.

Or an ongoing retainer, working as an embedded growth partner rather than an outside vendor. Terms are agreed when we scope the engagement, based on what the work actually requires.

Either way you get senior people who have done this before at scale, not a junior account manager working from a template.

PROOF

What the work has produced.

Every engagement to date has grown subscription revenue by at least 20%.

That track record comes out of over 4 years running growth for Seeking Alpha's marketplace, where the business scaled across 100+ Investing Groups. The marketing playbook many of those services still run on was built there.

Current and past clients include High Dividend Opportunities, Cestrian Capital Research, Navigating The Market, Tech Cache, I/O Fund, and Elliott Wave Trader.

The work fits best where there is already something to optimize: existing subscribers, existing traffic, an existing publication. If you are pre-launch, start with campaign and launch strategy instead.
